The weight of the cast iron manhole cover is generally determined by the size and thickness of the manhole cover. According to the standard of BS EN 124-2, the light cast iron with a diameter of 500mm is only allowed to be used by pedestrians and cyclists (at least A15). The total weight of the manhole cover and base is generally not less than 50kg, and the cast iron manhole cover is generally about 25kg. As the manhole cover increases and the load-bearing grade increases, the weight of the manhole cover also increases.
The composite manhole cover is 20%-30% lighter than an iron manhole cover, such as one clear opening 600 D400 iron manhole cover is 56kg, but one clear opening 600 D400 composite manhole cover is 48kg. Lighter weight means saving not only the shipping cost but also the labor cost.
